Ode to the Oaks

a few years back, an angry University of Alabama fan put enough poison in the ground to kill the 75 year old oaks that the Auburn University family held dear. a few weekends ago we had a celebration of the oaks and rolled them for the final time before they were cut down last week.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching several dance competitions and recitals since I’ve been here at Auburn… the first set of photos is “Dance by Design” and the second is “Dance Masters of America.”

My sister sent me a link a few months ago to this Alabama Outdoors photo contest and I thought, “I might as well enter something… who knows what can happen!” So I entered a handful of photos and didn’t think too much about it.

But in January, as I was sitting at school working on homework, an email floated across computer – “congratulations, photographers!” And low and behold, this duck photo had won first place in my age division! I totally was not expecting anything to come of my photos, so naturally I started yelping when I opened that email. I was so humbled and excited.

And then a couple weeks ago I got another email saying that the winning photos were on display at a lodge an hour away from my hometown, so of course I went to go see them. Totally awesome. :)

I’m very grateful for this honor. :)
